[very quiet voice] addicts deserve a place in the disability community too
[very loud and angry voice] addicts deserve a place in the disabled community too because addiction is a disorder of the brain AND it’s something you can inherit/be per-dispositioned to experience like bipolar disorder or depression.
We call ships ‘she’. We call our war machines ‘women’. We compare women to black widows and vipers. And you’re going to tell me it’s not ‘ladylike’ to scream, to take up space, to fight and demand respect and do whatever the hell I want. You’ve looked at nuclear bombs and been so in awe that you could only name them after women. Don’t try to downplay my power.
y’all. men assigning feminine pronouns to literal objects does not mean they respect us and think we are powerful. it means they feel like they own us just like they do a damn boat.
im getting sick of everyone saying “ew cis people” and saying that all “cis” people are transphobic.
"Ew cis people" = "Ew trans people" you are intentionally bashing someone for their gender either way, yet one is acceptable and the other makes you a tranphobic modern hitler.
Just because im not trans, and just because I am the gender I was born as does not make me transphobic. Its like. Telling someone that because they dont watch Game of Thrones they hate the show, its fans, and everything to do with it.Its like saying all white people are racist, and all men are sexist.
Believe it or not, a vast majority of “cis” people could care less about what you define your gender as. Yeah, there are people out there who are truly transphobic, but that doesnt mean everyone who is cis is a transphobe.
If you say you fight for trans rights and the fair treatment of all trans people, but you go around bashing people for being “cis” YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. IM P SURE NO ONE LIKES BEING BELITTLED FOR THEIR GENDER ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS ISSUE.
This is a two way street here guys. I’m only one person, but I give everyone the respect and civility that they deserve as a human being, regardless of their gender. I dont like transphobic people, and I dont like cisphobic people.
So lets all be mindful of our hypocrisies.
ew cis people
Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman-Hughes, 1972 and 2014
Both by Dan Bagan
Wanna see my cry like a baby? Ask me who these women were.
Hughes’ father was beaten nearly to death by the KKK when she was a kid, and what does she do? Become an activist to try and stop that from happening to other people. She raised money to bail civil rights protesters out of jail. She helped women get out of abusive situations by providing shelter for them until they got on their feet. She founded an agency that helped women get to work without having to leave their children alone, because childcare in the 1970s? Not really a thing. In fact, a famous feminist line in the 70s was “every housewife is one man away from welfare.”
Then she teamed up with Steinman to found the Women’s Action Alliance, which created the first battered women’s shelters in history. They attacked women’s rights issues through boots on the ground activism, problem solving, and communication. They stomped over barriers of race and class to meet women where they were: mostly mothers who wanted better for themselves and their children.
These are women are who I always wanted to be.
